HVAC and Furnace Filter Size Compatibility Checklist
How to match 1-inch return filters, deep media cabinet filters, MERV ratings, and air cleaner cabinet model numbers.
HVAC filters should be matched by nominal size, actual size, depth, cabinet type, and airflow tolerance. A 16x25x1 return filter is not a substitute for a 20x25x5 media cabinet filter, and higher MERV or MPR ratings can restrict airflow in systems not designed for them. Start with the label on the old filter, then confirm the return grille or media cabinet model.
